It is REALLY sad that this idea was magnifically introduced in feb 2005, (surely it was thought much earliear than that), and it is now december 2006 and still hasn't been implemented. Everyone has signed this "request/idea".

I would invite ArenaNet developers to log in during "rush hour" to see how badly this is needed (I would think they allready know though).

If implementing this in each city is too complex, then maybe explore some other ways, like in a new "Auction Island" or something like that, we understand it's not a walk in the park, but come on.

Default Auction House Please!

No matter what type of system you have, you will always have scammers and spammers, but this system will at least give those honest people an easier way of selling items.

I really like the idea of an Auction House/Island/whatever. Selling and buying items is such a pain in this game (the Guru Auction is helpful but waaaay too slow most of the time).

/signed for an auction house for like the seventieth time

I don't get to play much, and I can't make money because of it. I end up keeping all these awesome weapons because I can never stay long enough to sell.

By the way, my girl used to play a game that had this kind of market in it, what was it, gunzo? goonzu? gunzoo? I don't remember but it was almost exactly like option a.

An auction house or similar trading feature is, IMO, the single-most valuable addition to the game that ArenaNet could make. As it stands in the game now, I loathe having to spend time jumping around the major towns, trying to get into one of the top 3 districts, doing nothing more entertaining that pressing the up and enter keys (spamming sucks, but you've gotta do it if you want to sell your item in any kind of reasonable time frame - at least I confine mine to the trade channel, unlike thousands of other people.)

It's even worse if you're selling multiple items at once - you spend half your time answering whispers of "how much" with "which item?" or dealing with annoying "window shoppers" who don't take the time to read the full description. I've started telling people to go look it up when they ask "can I see it" and I don't even care that it alienates some lazy buyers. That's how frustrated I am with the (lack of) trading system in GW.

I very much like this idea. I'm tired of having to sit around in an area where my WTS message will be GONE from the chat window before anyone would have the slightest amount of time to read it, and having to wait ~10 minutes in a slightly less packed area for someone to come up and say "hey, I'll buy it."

This is another of several things I have been wanting to see implemented since the first day GW opened it's doors. Considering the way they have the world economy working and with a few minor adjustments to the existing merchant/trader system, I have no doubts that adding this would be very easily done. The rune/material/rare material traders are already set to globally updated according to supply and demand of their respective goods, so that same set of code could easily be used for an auction house purpose. They also already have the ideal access points available, if one simply thinks about it... The Xunlai Agents would be perfect to provide this function as well. The only modification necessary being to add a menu offering the choice of viewing personal storage or accessing the auction system. And considering that most likely those accessing the AH would also need access to their personal vault, the two could be effectively merged into a single interface window.

One needs only to unfilter the local chat channel to see the absolute need for such a system as this one. It reaches the point that no one can talk normally with each other in any reasonable manner due to the insane spam of trade offers/requests. Granted the addition of the new Party search option has been somewhat taken over to alleviate a fraction of that clutter on the channels, but it really wasn't designed for such a task and as such is a clunky work-around at best.

Obviously goods which are being offered/desired are going to constantly fluctuate, and that is a good thing in my opinion, it's part of what drives an economy. However one thing which having a stable and usable interface such as an AH would additionally provide is a reduction in scamming. One would need only look at the average prices being offered in the AH to gain a general idea of the going value for any given item/material. Obviously scammers will always exist, but at least this would provide some level of reduction to their effectiveness.

The only current problem I can imagine with regards to a system like this is in the delivery of profits/items. WOWarcraft uses an ingame mail system to deliver both, as GW does not presently have such, some form of delivery would need to exist. For that, I would again consider turning to the Xunlai as a solution. Won items and profit cash could be retrieved from a Xunlai agent upon the next visit, possibly with a small whisper/ding notification when an auction is sold or won.

As I have not taken the time to read through this entire thread as yet, I am not aware if "buyout" has been discussed. However having the option to not only set an opening bid price, but a buyout price and the option for a browser to buy auction items straight out by paying the "max" amount would also be very desirable.

Back in the days that GW was just released i already found it a little stupid that the game didn't had any form of auction house or something similar. Also it is THE feature that almost every GW player has been praying for the most! I think that if players had the choice of buying an expansion pack that offered an auction house system, everyone would buy it!

I played some other MMO's and the one that i liked most besides GW was Final Fantasy XI Online for PC. This game had just the perfect thing for auctioning goods. I'm not going to name up every single detail about how it works, as most people know how an auction house thingy needs to work.

What i do want to tell here is, that GW is desperate need for an auction thingy in a very short time. Personally i am getting realy sick of spamming 6 hours to sell my perfect golden goods in any major city. I am no longer satisfied with perfect golden drops, as i foresee the major shit that also comes with it...

GW needs an auction house!! The community has been asking and begging for this for almost two full years. And i think it's about damn time the function will be added. Even if i have to buy an expansion pack that includes this function! Therefore i will sign this thread!

Thumbs up

/signed.

Reason: ridiculous that GW doesn't have one already.

Sure a genuine Auction system could weaken the control Anet has over the economy (AFAIK, the current trader prices are controlled by Anet - I recall many cases where even if sellers hoard (out of stock) and there are people trying to buy, the prices don't go up. Also I can't believe tons of people have been bothering to expert salvage and sell all those Major Runes for 10g that I've been buying at 100g? Maybe the crooked merchant extracts them from the thousands of ettin pauldrons of Major * that players sell him for 60g ).

But big deal, the way GW is, GW life is fine even if players don't have tons of plat spilling from their storage, and I don't think game play will be that bad if almost everyone had plat spilling from storage - sure people would be buying all buyable skills, FoW armour - but that's not a disaster - new players will still be able to afford the max armor and max collector weapons.

So I think a decent working Auction system has more pluses than minuses.

Before GW even went gold people were asking for an auction system. After Prophecies we were told we would be getting "something" "soon". After factions we were told we would be getting "something" "soon". After Nightfall... well I think they decided to quit jerking us around and just shut up about the subject.

I'm not certain what "something" and "soon" mean to whoever it was (frog and some dev I think) that said that but I don't think that they mean the same thing to me because, by me, we've got nothing and almost two years later.

In other words. Don't count on getting "something" any time "soon."

Hasnt the whole "party search" option added this long awaited auction house we wanted.

Or atleast improved the trading facilities?

no, not at all

you can only make 1 post so 1 item only, and then you have a tiny amount of space to type into.

although it goes multi district, If you leave your message disapears, meaning you have to stay and for practicality not go afk, and considering most people traded in dist 1 nearly always, its not much of a difference. In fact if your having to stand there, you may as do something and spam trade as well (as people are doing)

I was exited at first, but having used it, it dosnt really seem to help alot (as above).

Pretty much it, they simply dont seem able or willing to deliver the goods.

I think that they are able, but for whatever reason they are unwilling to add an auction house, or any other simple (key word there) method of trading.

I'm thinking of creating a Player Owned houses detailed proposal....

Comming soo...

Has Arena net EVER taken ANY Ideas from the forum, the really good ones such as this....?

Well as far as I can tell, Anet's response to this thread is the 'Party Search' window. I think that is all they are willing to give us right now. It is nice, but everyone is still using the trade chat to sell items. The party search is being used to post trades, but not as much as the trade chat.

I think that is all they are willing to give us right now...

Maybe this comes a bit late, but can the Guru representative visiting ArenaNet today ask about any developments on this matter?

Perhaps Anet has thought an auction house would risk too much inflation. Here is a weird idea that I think would prevent inflation and enable easier trade.

My idea is a taxed free exchange service that's like a thrift store. It would look like an auction house in other MMO's, but everything would be free!! Except the fee.

To access the listing, one must post something. To post, one must pay a fee of ___ (500g). Then the person must post 2 or more items he or she doesn't need and takes one item - whatever he or she wants which has been posted. After a few days, the unchosen items expire and return to the player. If an item was chosen by another player, the player who posted it would receive a free exchange ticket instead. So that player can choose another item without the fee.

People who access the listing and choose not to take anything could get a partial refund (20%? 5%? some would still pay to browse. Gambling is so enticing).

The above system is a pure gamble. Players are betting there will be something available they would spend 500g (or whatever the fee) for.

I think that there are people out there who care more about seeing their items enjoyed by someone than making a profit. I do, I enjoy PVE so money accumulation is no problem for my chars. This system is for those. It may not cut down significantly from WTS spammers, but there are supportive ideas for that on the Gold Sinks forum, like on this page: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...t=19901&page=9

Some items should be unable to be posted so people wouldn't have to browse through gobs of frequent drops (like salvagable items, perhaps items for collectors or crafting materials also).
